Mark Rothko

Another TASCHEN book.
Ever since I saw his paintings at Tate in London, Rothko's emotive works occupy a special place in me.
Melbourne Theatre Company's recent production 'RED' was a great reminder of this man's philosophy, passion and suffering.
I love to go to The Rothko Chapel in Houston, and see Barnett Newman's 'Broken Obelisk' sculpture, dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King.

"My art is not abstract, it lives and breathes."

"I'm interested only in expressing basic human emotions - tragedy, ecstasy, doom, and so on. "

"A painting is not about experience. It is an experience. "
