The Genius of Design

Another superb documentary from BBC, this one traces the history of design in the last century.

Starting from Henry Ford, there're five episodes.

Bauhaus, Braun, Dieter Rams, Charles and Ray Eames, Tupperware, right up to Jonathan Ive, each episode follows the design and social culture that produced it.

My favourite story is German tanks called Tiger created by Nazi. Its technological and engineering superiority was recognised even by the British who got hold of it and analysed it during war.
However, they were very expensive, and took a long time to produce.

On the other hand, Red Army produced far much inferior tanks, but, they made hundreds of them very cheaply, in a very short period of time.

The result was obvious, Stalin beat Hitler on the ground.

This battle of tanks is a harbinger of the things to come after the war.
That is, supremacy of mass production.

I love this series very much.
