Oil Painting Portrait Workshop at Victorian Artists Society - Day 6

I was struggling, as usual, with shadow under her neck.
It was awful dark violet grey, and Barbara told me it's too dark.

She suggested that I should put warmer, cleaner colour on top it, gently blending together.
Another thing she told me was, I was holding a brush like a pencil,  and change it so that I can use the side of the brush.
I remember when I saw a demonstration by Ray Hewitt.

What a difference it makes. I like the way it loosened up the whole area under chin. That's what she called "painterly" look, and that's what I really like.
I wanted to do the whole thing including a face like that, but, I know it takes a lot of practice.

I run out of time, so I'll finish it sometime later.

Work in progress. 16 x 18 in.
