Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day 10

I spent entire class today painting a cast.

It was too dark initially and highlights were not light enough.
I introduced warmer colours to the cast to make it look more natural, using Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre and White.

Greg also told me to simplify the shape of its base by reducing the number of its tones.
For example, there were more than 15 different tones at the base of the cast at the beginning.
I tried to correct it, then he pointed out that there were now no tonal differences between its front and sides.
And I had to correct it again.

Well, it's been a long and hard journey, but, I'm learning a lot.
I'm planning to finish this one next week.

Work in progress. 16 x 20 in.
