Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day 1

I brought in a pineapple and two mandarines, and set up a wooden crate and a few props.

After covering a whole panel with Raw Umber, I used a rag to put basic shapes. Then Greg pointed out that I was actually drawing with a rag. It's very frustrating that I still have a bad habit of drawing!

I've never used a brick wall as a background, so it's very interesting to see how it will turn out.

I'm reasonably happy with this first stage of painting.

Work in progress. 16 x 20 in.
