Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day 2

Today I worked on an pineapple. I've never done this complex surface before, and it was very challenging.
Oh, before that, Greg told me to enhance a contrast of the painting more, widening a tonal range of it. So, I darkened shadow area.

Taking some advice from him, I first created its three dimensionality by considering it just a cylinder. Then, I put some details on it, trying to get some texture. He told me not to think it's a pineapple, just try to get basic shape and tone right.

And then, I did some more work on other objects.
I also worked on a table.

I'm reasonably happy with the progress so far.

Work in progress. 16 x 20 in.
