Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day2

This is the second session of this project.

Firstly, Greg told me to clean its background and a table. In doing so, I was very careful about the cast shadow from the objects.

Then he told me to think about edges. What is the most striking and obvious edge I can see?
This is the question he always ask us, and it sounds very easy, but, it's actually very difficult to see.
That determines the focal point of the painting, and that's how our eyes see.

I spent the rest of the class trying to create depth in the painting, using subtle tonal shift.
With only a colour family of blue, it's started to show a mysterious atmosphere, and I've found that very fascinating.

I have one more session on this one, and I'm really loving it.

Work in progress. 16 x 20 in.
