Plein Air Oil Painting

Kate and I went back to Kinglake.
We drove to Masons Fall Picnic Area and had a lunch, but, decided not to walk to the waterfall due to a lack of time.

On our way back from the picnic area, we found this beautiful property, and decided to paint there.
While we were painting, the owner's family came up to us and we had a lovely chat with them. However, when we heard that they lost everything during Black Saturday bush fire, it was very painful.

I brought this painting to Greg's painting class the following day, and he gave me some suggestions.
Firstly, the gate at front is not necessary. The colour of the foreground needs more variations, they all look the same tonally, and the colour is too yellowish.
The background needs to be much hazier to give much more distance, and if the background is looking that close as is now, cows should be much bigger.
Also, there should be more variety when it comes to their positions on the ground.

I always treasure his comments, and I learn a lot from him.

 Oil on panel. 16 x 20 in.
