Paint Out Day with Gregory Smith

I went to Melbourne Zoo this morning. I haven't been there, so I was very excited.
I always try to paint near Greg, so that I can see his approach to painting outdoor.

We spent some time trying to find a good location, but there weren't many places we can paint, and I suggested this Japanese Garden. I didn't know there was the garden, but thought it's interesting.

As it turned out, this is a lovely place, and we spent about two hours, before we called it a day due to bad weather.

I'm reasonably happy with this one. Later in the day, Kate noticed that the tree in the middle was at the wrong place, and after checking a photo, yes it was. It should be more to the right.

On Monday in the class, Greg gave me some valuable suggestions, for example, the footpath looks like going uphill, there need to be more tonal variations of trees, shadows are not quite right....

It was really a precious experience painting alongside him.

Oil on panel. 16 x 20 in.
