O'Keeffe, Preston, Cossington Smith: Making Modernism

In the morning, I drove to Heide Museum of Modern Art.

I quite like the idea of putting these three female artists together under the banner of pioneers of modern art.

Two Australians, Margaret Preston and Grace Cossington Smith, are well represented in this country. Still, it was very refreshing to see their works.

Most of my knowledge of Georgia O'Keeffe is from either books or Internet. Therefore, it was a precious opportunity to see her body of works.

Not a big fan of her landscapes though, but, I think she definitely shines in her beautiful tonal abstract paintings. Well, that's my coinage.
They clearly shows her academic training. Very subtle tonal variation, lost/found edges... Beautiful.
I particularly loved 'Abstraction White'.

There is also a good video presentation in a room, but, the sound and image are fuzzy and blurry. It's really a shame.

All in all, this is a great exhibition and I liked it a lot.

By the way, this is a great documentary from BBC.
