While my car is being serviced, I decided to go to city.
I spent some time looking around permanent collections. I always feel it's a disgrace the way NGV displays them. I'm sure it possesses a great number of artworks from the past. There's no point in displaying them in a warehouse. For example, there are so many great paintings in Schaeffer Gallery, but we can't see them because they're hung so high.
However, I was delighted to see two Sargent. Also, there's a very good collection of ancient sculptures.
