Plein Air Oil Painting

I drove to Rosebery Hill in Pipers Creek, about 1.5 hour drive north-west of Melbourne, this morning.
This is where my friend Tim grew up, and believe me, this property is just gorgeous to walk around. Cows, sheep, dogs, beautifully maintained gardens, magnificent trees.... And spectacular views!

Greg, Rachel and Paul joined us today. It’s a terrific feeling that we share a great love for painting outdoor.

I set up my easel here, looking towards main entry to the house.

Big tree trunks on the ground were very difficult to paint. Midway through, there were cows walking towards me, and I was very scared. I’ve never been so close to them.

I tried to incorporate them in the painting but they look too small, I think.
I spent 2.5 hours.

After lunch, inspired by Greg’s great painting, I decided to do another one. This time, looking towards Mt Macedon.

There were piles of cattle dung everywhere so I had to be very careful. This is a beautiful view. I tried to capture the effect of light.

Tim’s parents are lovely. They’ve done a great job creating this wonderful space. With perfect weather and great friends, it really was a memorable day.
