Northern Exposure visual arts festival

Japanese artist Naomi Ota's installation work 'Ocean White' succeeds in creating a serene and meditative space and time.

Along with calming sound by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, and very effective use of spot lightings, they lead you to an aesthetic pathway through an 'open white'.

I had a good chat with her. She studied textile art in Japan.
The fabrics are actually silk, and she once had another exhibition where a dancer was wandering around the space. I thought it must have been a great show.

To me, they all looked like white ink drawings suspended in the air. Beautiful.

A group exhibition by Illustrators Australia is another good one at Northcote Town Hall.

Here are some of my favorites.
Lisa Coutts, Joanne Brooker, Gloria Torres, Angie Rehe, Jody Pratt, Benjamin Johnson.....

My vote for People's Choice Award went to Philippa Garrard.

And my drawings in the foyer.
