Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day 1

This is the first lesson this year.

I was reasonably happy with the first wash, using Raw Umber and Ivory Black.

Then, I introduced some colours, Cad Lemon, Cad Red and Burnt Sienna.

What he emphasised today is the importance of prioritizing, using lost and found technique.
For example, the left bottom of teapot, small white jar and yellow tennis ball should be blurred, and the opposite sides should be sharper.

Otherwise, they all look flat.

These things are priceless tips for me, and I see the difference immediately. Unbelievable.

Work in progress. 16 x 20 in.
