Portrait painting lesson with Gregory Smith - Day 2

Today is the last day of this portrait class at Victorian Artists Society.

I had a side view from her right. For some reason, I've found this side more difficult to do.
She had a beautiful costume today, and I tried to incorporate these elements into this portrait painting.

I was concerned that her face might be too small for a portrait study, but, Greg said it's ok.
Again, I struggled with tonal balance, particularly shadow area.

I'm reasonably happy with overall composition and her face, the way it reflects the light.
I didn't have time to do work on her hat much, and it really looks a bit dodgy.

However, with Greg's timely advice, I think this painting is the best I've ever done so far.
In that sense, I'm very happy with it.
I learned a lot.

It was a great two day lesson, and I do hope I have more opportunity to learn a portrait from this master artist/teacher Gregory Smith.

Anne.
3 1/2 hours. Unfinished.
