Oil Painting lesson with Gregory Smith

After a two week break, it’s great to be back in the studio.
It was almost done, I put a finishing touch to the cast today. The vase on the right looked too flat. I had a problem of creating a believable illusion, so Greg did a quick a demo. VoilĂ !!
The edge of the front table was too sharp, It was need to be softened.

Well, it’s been very tough, particularly the cast. I think I painted it a couple of years ago. This one is far much better, I have to say. I think I’ve been progressing a bit.

After a coffee break, I set up this subject from a cupboard. Again, Greg gave me a good suggestion. I love the African mask.

As usual, after Raw Umber wash, I quickly established basic shapes with a rag, relying on my gut instincts first, then measuring more carefully.
I think it’s a good start.

Work in progress.
