I’d never been to Australian Chamber Orchestra, but today’s program, violin concerto and 5th symphony, was irresistible.
Pre-concert talk at the foyer was very disappointing. With a big crowd started pouring in, it was impossible to hear a thing.
Richard Tognetti’s towering performance of the first piece was absolutely mesmerising. Powerful and sensitive, it was Beethoven at its best.
I wasn’t a big fan of the tempo of the symphony’s first movement. I felt it was too fast. However, by the time it reached its thunderous climax of the fourth movement, I was completely intoxicated by its sheer power and beauty.
