Painting Trip to Maldon with Gregory Smith - Day 2

We drove to Newstead, about 15 min drive from Maldon this morning. 

I set up my easel across the butcher.

I had a really tough time to get buildings right. I spent about 3 hours on this one. 

I'm reasonably happy with it, but it definitely needs more polished finish. 

Oil on panel. 16 x 20 in. 

Then we drove to Cairn Curran Reservoir, about 15 min drive from Newstead. 

This area is beautiful, there are many places that offer fantastic views. 

I really struggled with this one. Water and reflection of light is always difficult. And I had a hard time painting greens on the hazy day, because everything looks muted. 

I had very muddy foreground and had to wipe it off, then started it again. Somehow I couldn't get it right. 

I spent about 3 hours on this one.

It really was a great day painting all day long.
