Fitzroy Arts Precinct

Glorious day four!

There're still some good galleries in the area.

Fehily Contemporary is a wonderful gallery, but, very difficult to find.
I had a great chat with the director, Ms Fehily, and she was lovely.

This exhibition, 'To see a world in a grain of sand...', by Marion Borgelt is one of the best I've seen this week.
The title is a quote from one of my favourite poets, William Blake, and the artist explores the notion of time, space and motion.

She's obviously a multi-faceted artist, working not only in paintings, but, glass and sculpture.

I was fascinated by the diversity of the works on display, and they're all extremely high quality outputs.

'Tell them I said something' by Roh Singh at Dianne Tanzer Gallery.
This one is interesting.
Singh uses the pitch of sound wave, from the last words of famous figures before they died, and transforms them into sculpture.
My favourite is
"It's better to burn out than to fade away."
Kurtz Cobain

Also on display is Callum Cooper's video work, 'Somersault'.
I like it very much, it's mesmerising.

Here's another one by this promising video artist.
It's not the same, but, you'll get some idea.

'Thread' by Anita Mertzlin at Kick Gallery.
Her still life paintings look traditional, but, somehow I've found they're very modern.
I was told by the director that she also works in surrealism style.

'Edge of Tasmania' by Mark Clements, 'Prelude' by James Riches at Red Gallery.

Tibetan Art at Chapman & Bailey Gallery.

South Yarra Arts Precinct

Glorious day 3.... Not!

Not my favourite area in Melbourne, but, there're many good galleries.

'Wasteland Wanderlust' by Paul White at Metro Gallery.
Incredibly detailed pencil works of industrial graveyard.

'Microcosm' by Miao Xiaochun at Ausin Tung Gallery.
The gallery focuses on Asian artists.
There're three videos, all of which are excellent.
I don't usually like video arts, but, his works are all extremely detailed computer graphics. And they have strong humanistic stories, accompanied by beautiful sound track.

My favorite is 'Disillusion'. This one is truly touching, and the music! None other than 'St Matthew's Passion' by J S Bach.

'View Finder' by Kate Tucker at Helen Gory Galerie.
At first glance, her paintings are simple play of colour and shape.
The more I look at them, the more I feel mesmerised by them. That's a definition of good paintings, I think.
They're all sold.

Masayoshi Sukita's photographic works of David Bowie at Mossgreen Gallery.

'Stutter Speed' by Camille Hannah at Nellie Castan Gallery.
Her large scale paintings are powerful, at the same time, soft and feminine.
Incredible brush strokes, well controlled and fluid.
I love them all.

'From Earth' by Matt Coyle and 'Unfamiliar' by Jack Rowland at Anna Pappas Gallery.

'Countermanding Two' by Tanmaya Bingham and Christopher Young at Anita Traverso Gallery.

'Sarcophagus' by Julia Deville at Sophie Gannon Gallery.
I didn't even know the meaning of the title.
Awesome works by this well known artist.

Melbourne CBD Arts Precinct

Glorious day, two.
Today, I wandered around City, some galleries were closed, preparing for new exhibition.

Karl Wiebke at Arc One Gallery. Always nice to see Suzanne, director.

Andrew Browne at Tolarno Gallery. Lovely space.

Christophe Stibio at Flinders Lane Gallery.
He uses strips of shredded documents for his landscape works.

Michael Corridore and Jacqueline Ball at Edmund Pearce Gallery.
Previously called Pigment Gallery, it's in a lovely Nicholas Building.
I love both photographers. The former's brilliant atmospheric shots and the latter's transcendental abstraction.

Eamon Sprod at West Space.
You never notice this gallery. It's level one at 225 Bourke St.
'Waking of the Insects' is a fascinating sound installation.

Collingwood Arts Precinct

Glorious day!
Bathed in beautiful winter sunshine all day long, surrounded by great art.

I wandered around this area with my friend, visiting galleries one after another.

Nerissa Lea and Deborah Willams at Australian Galleries, Smith Street.

Rodney Forbes and Stewart Macfarlane at Darby Street.
Forbes creates very unique visual wonderland.

Penny Coss and Penny Bovell at Mossenson Gallery.
Both are based in WA.

Martin King and Dagmar Cyrulla at James Makin Gallery.
I love Cyrulla's figurative paintings, particularly works on paper.

I happened to walk pass a funky barber shop near the corner of Smith St and Gertrude St.
I noticed Laura was cutting hair. She used to work with me.
It's very cool that they play LPs on a turn table. On top of that, clients get a free bottle of beer!
So, check out this place.
This is a drawing of her that I did a long time ago.

Artist talk at Heide Museum of Modern Art

Guy Stuart talked about his work, 'Lattice Full of Holes'.

It was 1972, and new federal government, Whitlam of ALP, was elected, creating Australia Council.... Very exciting time of his creative life.

This large scale installation was made of French camouflage net, enticing viewers to a myriad of vertiginous holes.

He spoke highly of Japanese architecture and its interior design as his inspiration of minimalism movement.

Another speaker was Peter Cripps on his work 'Real Objects in the World'.

His main concern in creating art work is, how it occupies the surrounding space, and, the way it engages in a dialogue with viewers.
I found it's very interesting.
